This place has the most appetizing, flavorful and mouthwatering food in San Antonio, Texas. We came upon it by accident and decided to try it. I'm a foodie person and by far this place ranks top on my list of favorites. Super excited to be going back soon!!!
My mistake was going in with high expectations. Based on the 4.5 rating, I imagined it would be better. The place is very small, with almost no parking and the AC was off when I went. It was warm inside the restaurant. The food was not very good either. The tacos al vapor de Chicharron prensado were very greasy and didn’t even look like chicharron. It was completely mashed up. I also noticed that they don’t have all their options in the menu. Good thing the pieces are low. Would have been upsetting to pay higher end prices for the food. Can’t say I would go back again.
Just tried Underground Smashburgers, the new concept inside Birotes Tortas Ahogadas, and I was seriously impressed. The Deluxe Burger on their homemade bun had perfectly grilled onions and tons of pickles. So good. They still have their original menu alongside their new Underground Smashburgers menu. In addition to their burgers being juicy and delicious, they're also reasonably priced. My Deluxe Burger combo with fries and a drink was $10. What a steal for such good food. Try this place!
Arrived on a Saturday afternoon and only 1 customer in during lunch time. A small hole in the wall place but inside was very clean, well lit, and with open space concept. The staff was friendly and had us sit where we preferred. The menu was thorough and had details in English. That was important since my better half never had this type of food and didn’t know what most the items were. We tried the famous torta ahogada and an order or tacos dorados (2 bean and 2 carnitas). The food came quick, presentation was nice and clean. The portion size was great and the price point was definitely a plus for this type of food. I cannot speak enough about how incredibly delicious our food was. Both plates were full and well packed with food and flavor. The carnitas I added to the tacos dorados were only an extra $2 but they gave a very generous portion. The torta wasn’t soggy and it was soaked perfectly and the carnitas with that, were so savory and tender as well. Server/cashier was great and efficient. The dining area was cute and clean and they even offered a nice patio for outdoor seating if you preferred. We will for sure be coming back for more and hope to try different delicious items on the menu.
So good 😩 location looks pretty rough, but the food is incredible. The house made torta bread was fresh and delicious.
Wow! We really loved this place. The pictures do tell the story. I read the reviews prior to coming here and the did not disappoint. We stopped in after a Saturday morning hike at the Pearl and River Walk. We arrived around 10 am and it was pretty empty. By the time we were done eating it started to get busy. The food was excellent the service was excellent. I ordered the Machete and everyone else ordered the torta ahogada. We also got the chicharon appetizer. Additionally we had an order of tacos vapor. All the food was excellent. I definitely recommend this place id you are looking for authentic Mexican cuisine.
Nice little place for some grub! It was a bit hot inside due to it being an older building and combined with the salsa, I was sweating 😆 It was a small dining area but had outsider seating if needed. They had some maintenance issues with the restrooms, mainly water connections. Our waitress was nice and helpful with our small children who need to wash their hands. The tortas, empanadas, and tacos were very delicious.
Small place, a little drive out to a neighborhood we were not too familiar with, but let me tell you so worth EVERY bit of it. The birria was AMAZING in flavor, spices and portion. Waitress was kind. Will definitely be back soon!! Great job to the owners!
